At the end of September 2016, Airbus Group, a world leader in the aeronautical and defence sectors and related services, announced its intention to merge the group’s structure with that of its largest division, Airbus Commercial Aircraft, from 1 January 2017 onwards. The company will keep Airbus Defence and Space and Airbus Helicopters as divisions of this new organisation, under the name of Airbus. The company will be listed on the stock exchange under the name Airbus, with the symbol “AIR”. Group shares are listed in Germany, Spain and France. The aim of the merger is to rationalise, simplify and reposition the company’s global resources according to corporate operational requirements and as determined by the market. It is intended to support the company’s goal of improving shareholder profitability.

Orders placed with Airbus during the first nine months of 2016 totalled 73.2 billion euros, whereas the value of the order book stood at around 986 billion euros on 30 September 2016. Revenue remained stable at 42.7 billion euros. In 2015, Airbus generated revenue of 64.5 billion euros, with a workforce of around 136,600 employees.
