Banco Popular, the sixth-largest Spanish bank in terms of assets, with a total of €160 billion, is the financial institution most focused on the retail banking business. Almost 90% of its revenue comes from the retail banking business, the highest percentage of all Spanish banks. This difference provides Banco Popular with a clear competitive advantage in an environment characterised by a return to traditional commercial banking. Banco Popular has 2,100 branches across Spain and 200 abroad, staffed by over 16,000 employees specialising in banking services for SMEs, the self-employed and families.
Banco Popular also operates internationally with two foreign entities, Banco Popular Portugal and Totalbank in Florida (both wholly-owned), and other banks and financial services firms.
