Aena is the world's largest airport operator, seeing almost 196 million passengers in 2014. More than 500 million people have passed through Spanish airports in the last three years. It currently operates 46 airports and 2 heliports in Spain, and participates in the management of 15 other airports around the world through its subsidiary Aena Internacional (12 in Mexico, 2 in Colombia and one in the United Kingdom, London-Luton, in which it holds a 51% share).?
Aena's management follows a network model as it operates a set of airports with very different characteristics, which allows it to optimize its outlays thanks to synergies and economies of scale yielded by its massive business volume.
Aena's airport network features over 700 commercial airlines connecting close to 150 countries, with some 6,200 companies providing services, directly generating 140,000 jobs and, indirectly, 440,000 - equivalent to 2% of Spain's working population.
